Under the auspices of FairWild Foundation, the International Standard for Sustainable Wild Collection (ISSC-MAP) and the FairWild Standard will be jointly implemented to assure buyers that products are produced in a socially and ecologically sound manner. The joint implementation of both standards also ensures traceability, transparency and improves product safety.
Development of the FairWild standard was initiated by SIPPO (the Swiss Import Promotion Programme) and financed in cooperation with Forum Essenzia e.V. Development of the International Standard for Sustainable Wild Collection of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (ISSC-MAP) was supported by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), TRAFFIC, WWF, and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
In October 2008, FairWild Foundation was endorsed by these supporting agencies as the official owner of the FairWild and ISSC-MAP standards and is responsible for the implementation and the quality of the standards.
